Upon earning my BA at the University of Washington, I became a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Information Agency. I was posted to four countries and earned six service awards. The agency selected me for a Graduate Fellowship in international economics at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
My last positions – in Washington – were Chief of Foreign Service Personnel (including a team of Career Counselors) and then Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs. I achieved the rank of Career Minister. I earned an MA in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management and was admitted to the national Public Administration Honors Society Pi Alpha Alpha.
On retiring, I did international consulting until recruited by a Fortune 50 company to re-build its 30-member strong Public Affairs Department. I hired new staff, re-vamped the department and channeled resources to my portfolio of some 125 civic, minority, women, labor, media and governmental organizations.
I also completed the Advanced Management Program (mini-MBA) at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. I earned a Certificate in Translation from New York University and was asked to create and teach French and Spanish translation. I was also asked to design and teach a course on Relations with the Muslim World. NYU gave me its Outstanding Service Award.
Global testing nonprofit Educational Testing Service recruited me to head Communications and Public Affairs. In 2009, I became the Strategic Advisor to the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer (including HR). We founded the Office of Diversity and created a Diversity Council.
In 2018, I retired from ETS and continued my work with Latin Insights, a New York City-based market and opinion research firm at which I became a partner in 2002.
